Going natural, a movement?

So, I've always been natural. Meaning I've never permed or chemically straightened my hair. First time i even pressed my hair was in the 10th grade! It was for my aunt's wedding. Before that though, in middle school, i would get the iron, you know the one you iron clothes with and use it on my hair. Lol, yea i know.

But since last year, end of summer/fall '09, I've been wanting to grow my hair out. Don't get me wrong I love my hair short, idk y I just like it framing my face and if it grew and was touching my neck it felt weird b/c i wasn't used to it, lol. The reason I want to grow my hair out is 1) i want a nice, legit ponytail and 2) that way when my hair isn't straighten I can have more options in styling it in its natural state. So, I think I got my last professional trim in fall '09, I tend to cut my hair every year before school starts. I trim my hair on my own after i wash it I put it in twists and just cut the ends. I do it both for any split ends there may be as well as getting rid of straight ends.

January 20, 2011

That date marks the date of my last semester as an undergraduate at St. John's University. I'm going to need to get some more SJU gear before I leave as well as some alumni status gear, lol.

The first day wasn't bad. Had three classes back to back starting at 9am and I made it on time to all of them. My metaphysics philosophy teacher seems a bit woo O_0 like he looks like he has a ton of information in his head that he's trying to organize. That happens when you try to make sense the existence of God through philosophical methods. That kind of thinking requires a brain power beyond those of mere humans.
My theology class was next. It's History of the Church. Doesn't seem bad sort of, it seems interesting because I loved world history in high school and it's interesting learning about religions across the world. I am a Christian myself.
Lastly, I had my Spanish class. It's Golden Age of Spanish Lit. This class..ehh a lot of speaking in Spanish that I can't understand or requires a lot of concentration. I tend to drift off when people are speaking in another language. So, we'll see how that goes.

Friday I had only one class, Developmental Bio at 9am. However, it was snowing so I had an unofficial snow day. The snow cleared & the sun came out at 9, smh.

So, we'll see how my first full week goes. Hope all goes well! Aiming and getting straight A's!

Becoming a health ambassador

So yesterday on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day I woke up around 6:30AM to go to the Bronx. I went for a Community Health Ambassador Program (CHAP) orientation by Mentoring in Medicine (MIM). It ran from 8:30AM to about 2:00PM.

The program was held at Montefiore Medical Center. The host/MC of the whole thing kept me awake for the ENTIRE day, I didn't feel like knocking out at all! It was all very entertaining and interactive. The purpose of being a health ambassador is to educate the community about health issues especially regarding obesity and heart disease. There are several meets/events throughout the year as well as a community service quota to meet.

At the orientation there were many health professionals as well as current medical, college, post-bacc, and even a few high school students. The testimonials that I heard were very inspiring. It was like refresher so that I can focus and achieve of being a health professional myself one day.

If anyone is interested in the program or just finding out more about the organization for any other events that they have, you can check out http://medicalmentor.ning.com/.

What I'm Doing So Far...

as reaching my dream goes: I started another Kaplan class to take my second MCAT.
Last time I made sure that I did all of the required work (plus more) so that I could use the Higher Score guarantee if needed. As you can see it was.

I'm trying to be as focused as I can with this course. In fact once I'm done with one more post I'm going to read for my class tomorrow night. It has been snowy/rainy weather today and I haven't been out at all. Sorry for those who had to. But, I hope that it'll be nice and clear when I leave to go to class tomorrow evening.

Also, classes are starting on Thursday. I'm taking only four classes, which consist of 3rd level classes in theology and philosophy (metaphysics), a Spanish elective I forgot which one, and developmental biology for my last biology elective.

I'm always excited about seeing what my classes are going to be about during the first week of school. I know nerd status, lol.

2011 goals

  • finish the semester with straight A's
  • get a well-suited internship/job for after graduation
  • score REALLY well on my MCATs the 2nd time around, better yet ACE them
  • get into a good grad school program for next year in the meantime
  • get into a US medical school for fall 2012 =)
  • get closer to God & His Word
  • enjoy the year while accomplishing everything

all this with God's will & help.

Philippians 4:13 - I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me.

I apologize for not posting since August!...Over the summer of 2010 I've discovered Tumblr, which I really enjoy.
Sometimes i feel that my thoughts are too short for here or too long for Twitter and Tumblr just seem like the perfect fit.

However, I still would like to be more active on here. I'm currently about to start my last semester of college on Thursday. It's a wonderful thing and scary at the same time. I think I'm going to use this blog as a way to document what I am going through to achieve my dreams. I considered just starting a whole new blog but I still plan to blog about things unrelated to just my dreams, like events or just life in general. I am not just about my dreams there's more to me than just that. I love art, fashion, music and shopping.

I'm just an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams.

Happy New Year (belated)
