Get it Right, Get it Tight - Getting in Some Exercise
So I've mentioned complained before (here, and here) about not being able to go to the gym and how I long to exercise. My lovely friend and fellow blogger, Paulana of Paulana's Melange, mentioned workouts I could do at home via YouTube. I've known this and have tried, however I never really liked them. I do like watching the workouts, there are many good ones that I'm subscribed to like: ToneItUpcom, Lean Secrets, and SarahFit TV. But trying to follow along never really worked out well for me. The first YouTube channel, the girls of Tone It Up, have a website and a community that I like going on. I like the workouts they make up, which you can print out or write down and do on your own.

Meatless in December

A Tomato (Basil I think?) veggie soup I had at LIJ caf after volunteering .
Throughout the month I wasn't bothered or tempted to eat meat as it is served throughout my house and there were days when it seemed more special like fried fish one night. Being that it was the holidays I guess my mother went in more, lol. I've decided to just eat meat as I see fit and eliminate red meats from my diet best as I can. I LOVE chicken and never thought I could change my diet to one without it, LOL.

''Volunteers are paid in Six Figures: S M I L E S''

As of this coming week I will be volunteering at 3 different places on 3 different days, Mondays to Wednesdays. I also do this health ambassador thing that you could read a little bit about in a previous post here. I enjoy them for the most part, keeps me busy. However, it can cost money to volunteer. Like on Tuesdays I go to Brooklyn so money is needed for buses & trains & food (it's a long day). So I've been active on the job search lately. I just finished my phlebotomy course (previous post) and took the licensing exam this past Monday. It was a piece of cake same questions that were on the practice test I had studied. So as I am waiting on my results been looking up phlebotomy positions and have found several. However, they want at least 2 years of experience. So I figured rather than waste an online application I'll make my way to the locations with my resume and my license once I receive it. *fingers crossed*
How's the real world treating my fellow college grads?

& the countdown begins...
So, I'm goin on a Caribbean cruise on June 30th =) Yea, I'm excited, never have i ever been on a cruise on before. So as preparation my friend and I are going walking & building up to running on the track at the high school by my house in the mornings. Today was our first day, it was rather nice. We walked 7 laps for 31 mins. We also walked there and back. My friend walked a little bit longer because she lives about 3 blocks farther from me.
Trying to get rid of some stomach fat xp before the cruise, so we're also watching what we eat. Like for example after the walk and a shower i had a slice of whole wheat bread with some natural peanut butter for some protein and a little strawberry spread. Also, got some Light & Fit yogurt that i'm eating at the moment, lol. It's peach, tastes so good. Yesterday, I got some healthy snacks at the supermarket with my mother like the yogurt, along w/ green grapes, and granola bars.

I was thinking of not drinking (I don't drink like that anyway, kinda rarely), however there are events like every weekend this month. This Saturday is my lil bro's (neighbor) graduation from highschool BBQ across the street, then the 18th is a friend's 21st bday BBQ, then the 25th is a wedding renewal/babyshower (I haven't picked which one i want to go to yet lol). But you see what I mean. As long as I'm good the other days of the week, everything should be fine.
I usually lose some weight during the summer because i don't eat as much as during the school year, but that's just bad eating habits like sleeping in late and eating my first meal in the afternoon. Anywhoo, I hope to see results by the cruise and to stay on track.
Hope you guys have a healthy summer =)

Becoming a health ambassador
So yesterday on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day I woke up around 6:30AM to go to the Bronx. I went for a Community Health Ambassador Program (CHAP) orientation by Mentoring in Medicine (MIM). It ran from 8:30AM to about 2:00PM.
The program was held at Montefiore Medical Center. The host/MC of the whole thing kept me awake for the ENTIRE day, I didn't feel like knocking out at all! It was all very entertaining and interactive. The purpose of being a health ambassador is to educate the community about health issues especially regarding obesity and heart disease. There are several meets/events throughout the year as well as a community service quota to meet.
At the orientation there were many health professionals as well as current medical, college, post-bacc, and even a few high school students. The testimonials that I heard were very inspiring. It was like refresher so that I can focus and achieve of being a health professional myself one day.
If anyone is interested in the program or just finding out more about the organization for any other events that they have, you can check out http://medicalmentor.ning.com/.
