Let's Play Catch Up!

Okay, so i've been away for like forever! It's been a hectic time, mostly here but Tumblr a little, suffered as well. So here's what's been going on:

1) Relay for Life (Apr. 8) was cool/fun despite the wack DJ from the time i was there. Free food, music, friends - it's basically a 12hr party, all the while raising money for cancer research. I also met w/ some friends outside of school where we went to Applebee's to eat nd then proceeded to get reallyyy twisted it was a fun night. One of the best of my life.

2) Two weeks after that was Spring Week, & the events i participated in were The Element fashion show of course that i helped run as an e-board member of the Fashion Club, Spring Fling, which is the carnival on the Great Lawn - again free food, games, fun, and friends, of course some Dippin' Dots, and the Black Music Fest concert, which consisted of Chrisette Michelle, Wayne Wonder, Roscoe Dash, & Wale.

Disappearing Act

School has been crazy and it's my last semester. There has been more papers/essays and tests I believe in this semester, smh. No time to enjoy all the festivities that go on in school.

Also, I've gotten sick a few days ago, ugh it sucks. Feeling better but still not great.

Graduation is in like 42 days! Birthday in 31 days..or a month from tomorrow, May 3!

I came on to talk about something but i totally forgot, lol. I'll come back when I remember.

Just checking in, Happy Saturday.

Going natural, a movement?

So, I've always been natural. Meaning I've never permed or chemically straightened my hair. First time i even pressed my hair was in the 10th grade! It was for my aunt's wedding. Before that though, in middle school, i would get the iron, you know the one you iron clothes with and use it on my hair. Lol, yea i know.

But since last year, end of summer/fall '09, I've been wanting to grow my hair out. Don't get me wrong I love my hair short, idk y I just like it framing my face and if it grew and was touching my neck it felt weird b/c i wasn't used to it, lol. The reason I want to grow my hair out is 1) i want a nice, legit ponytail and 2) that way when my hair isn't straighten I can have more options in styling it in its natural state. So, I think I got my last professional trim in fall '09, I tend to cut my hair every year before school starts. I trim my hair on my own after i wash it I put it in twists and just cut the ends. I do it both for any split ends there may be as well as getting rid of straight ends.

January 20, 2011

That date marks the date of my last semester as an undergraduate at St. John's University. I'm going to need to get some more SJU gear before I leave as well as some alumni status gear, lol.

The first day wasn't bad. Had three classes back to back starting at 9am and I made it on time to all of them. My metaphysics philosophy teacher seems a bit woo O_0 like he looks like he has a ton of information in his head that he's trying to organize. That happens when you try to make sense the existence of God through philosophical methods. That kind of thinking requires a brain power beyond those of mere humans.
My theology class was next. It's History of the Church. Doesn't seem bad sort of, it seems interesting because I loved world history in high school and it's interesting learning about religions across the world. I am a Christian myself.
Lastly, I had my Spanish class. It's Golden Age of Spanish Lit. This class..ehh a lot of speaking in Spanish that I can't understand or requires a lot of concentration. I tend to drift off when people are speaking in another language. So, we'll see how that goes.

Friday I had only one class, Developmental Bio at 9am. However, it was snowing so I had an unofficial snow day. The snow cleared & the sun came out at 9, smh.

So, we'll see how my first full week goes. Hope all goes well! Aiming and getting straight A's!

Becoming a health ambassador

So yesterday on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day I woke up around 6:30AM to go to the Bronx. I went for a Community Health Ambassador Program (CHAP) orientation by Mentoring in Medicine (MIM). It ran from 8:30AM to about 2:00PM.

The program was held at Montefiore Medical Center. The host/MC of the whole thing kept me awake for the ENTIRE day, I didn't feel like knocking out at all! It was all very entertaining and interactive. The purpose of being a health ambassador is to educate the community about health issues especially regarding obesity and heart disease. There are several meets/events throughout the year as well as a community service quota to meet.

At the orientation there were many health professionals as well as current medical, college, post-bacc, and even a few high school students. The testimonials that I heard were very inspiring. It was like refresher so that I can focus and achieve of being a health professional myself one day.

If anyone is interested in the program or just finding out more about the organization for any other events that they have, you can check out http://medicalmentor.ning.com/.
